First the YZF-R6, then the ZX-6R has dealt well with the restriction!

2019 Domestic New Model Collection [Part-02] Lightweight Super Sport Type

  • 2019/7/23

The 600cc class has a characteristic of being lighter and more compact than the liter class super sport. Although shrinking its lineup for racing-oriented models, it has been just getting better by making model changes of the 2017 YZF-R6 and of the 2019 Ninja ZX-6R.

Not only an authentic one but also a nonstandardized full-scale one or a retro one have appeared.

The 600 – 800 cc class super sport is attractive with a lighter and more compact body and with a more moderate output than those of the liter class super sport, which seems too hard to handle with an excess of power. Also the prices are easier to get.

The 600 cc class super sport became very popular in Europe in between the 1990’s and the early half of 2000’s. But nowadays the market has changed enough to diminish this class even to an end because of not dealing with the EURO4, emission regulation in Europe since 2016. In this situation, the 2017 YAMAHA YZF-R6 was the first to deal with this regulation. After that, it became a topic that the racing-oriented Ninja ZX-6R made its model change in 2019.

The latest trends in 2019
– The 600 cc class super sport, once got a popularity, never comes to an end.
– Would the trend of neo classic style spread to this class?

The displacement of 600 cc was originally set for racing regulations such as the World Supersport Championship, which encounters a lack of torque in the low-mid range in streets because of its high rotation settings focused on the peak power. So there comes many models now with an extra displacement enough not to be restricted by racing regulations.

KAWASAKI Ninja ZX-6R / KRT Edition: More than enough power with additional 36cc / 126ps.

It has a moderate  in-line 4 cylinder engine of 636 cc displacement which makes a lot of riding pleasure not only in a circuit but also on a public road. The 2019 model has dealt with the EURO4 enough to get higher power of 126 ps. It has equipped not only a radical styling with a reverse slant nose but also full LED headlights as with those of the 2018 Ninja 400 / 500. The running performance has been strengthened by the KQS, quick shifter which enables seamless upshifts, and by the BRIDGESTONE S22 tires. Also it has 2 selectable power mode settings and a traction control system with 3-step plus off-mode, which have been succeeded from the former one, and has also an ETC onboard device as standard equipment.

YAMAHA YZF-R6: The swift. The earliest model in the next-generation middle class super sport.

The YAMAHA YZF-R6 is well known as a racing-oriented spartan 600 cc class super sport model. It had made a model change in 2017 for the first time in 9 years, to succeed to some technologies from the YZF-R1. Based on the former one with an electric control throttle and a variable air funnel, the 2017 model had equipped 3 power mode settings and a 6-step traction control system. The styling had been newer than that of the current R1, to be characterized by glaring LED headlights and an aluminum tank.  It had been a success to increase its maximum speed by improving 8% of its air resistance value. As for the coloring of 2019 model, the blue has made a graphical change, the matte grey has added newly. Not only these 2 colors above but also the white and the matte black painted to the 2018 model are now on sale in the domestic market.

SUZUKI GSX-R750: Solitary 750 cc model. New colors has been sold in the U.S. market.

This is a traditional one to evolve continuously from the first 1985 model, which had been an origin of the large-size super sport. The European model did not deal with the EURO4, to come to an end of selling in the European market. The U.S. model has new coloring of the 2-tone of white and black and the single-color of black. It is still possible to get the 2018 model in the domestic market.

Will the continuously sold U.S. models deal with the EURO5?

Although The CBR 600 RR and the GSX-R 600 has finally come to an end of selling in the European market because of not dealing with the EURO4, the emission regulation in Europe, they still have continued to be sold in the U.S., where there are different regulations from Europe. If it comes a trend again to the 600 cc class super sport, the new one of each would be possible to be released in accordance with the EURO5, the next regulation which will begin to apply in 2020, that would be well expected.
