To be sold in Western Police colour scheme?!

Attention towards Suzuki for Milan Show with introduction of 2019 Katana Black

  • 2018/10/30

At the Intermot Show in early October, Suzuki released a new Katana model. Attention is gathering for further movements next time at November’s Milan Show. It is clear to see how the new Katana Black follows on from the Ryuyo (New 2019 GSX-R1000R).

Teaser video gives advance notice of 6th November unveiling

The information despatch from manufacturers pointing towards Italy’s Milan Show in November has been lively. Up until now we have introduced several bikes that will be sold on the market such as the Honda CB650R & CBR650R, BMW S1000RR, Kawasaki Versys 1000, Suzuki GSX-R1000R Ryuyo, and the Yamaha Tenere 700. In addition, it has been made public that a new Black version of the Suzuki Katana will be announced at the Milan Show.

Black has never existed as a genuine colour in successive generations of the Katana. However, what is famous is the GSX1100X Katana that appeared as the beloved bike of Eiji Hatamura, played by actor Hiroshi Tachi in the hit Japanese TV drama “Seibu Keisatsu” (Western Police). The “X” accounts for the full black bodywork finished in red logos, and the new 2019 Katana Black seeks to recreate this. So, it would be fair to say that this is a genuine edition Seibu Keisatsu colour scheme. Incidentally, Yoshimura also put a full black Katana 1135R on the market in 2001, and it is thought that the new Katana has been based on the image of that, too.

(Suzuki Katana   2019 European spec.   Date of release: Spring 2019 [Europe]) This is the Black that appeared in the “Feel the Edge | Phase 5” video that was made public on 18th October, 2018. There has been advance notice regarding its display at the press day being held at the Milan show on 6th November. It seems as though it will differ to the black seat of the Seibu Keisatsu X and the Yoshimura 1135R, by having black and silver seating.

This is the silver model that was exhibited at Germany’s Intermot Show on 2nd October. You can see how the impressions of the bike have changed by the alterations made to the colours on the side covers, tank cover, and upper-fairing.
